Swim programme, coaches and pools

Our Head Coach is David Maxwell.  In addition, we currently have six coaches: Helen, Jacob, Jess, Tom, Georgia and Zak. All have spent many years swimming before progressing onto coaching and have a desire to pass on their love of the sport to the next generation of young swimmers.

The swim programme varies on age and ability but in summary it starts with a fun and skills based programme, which develops into building endurance and maintaining technique over longer distances. It then moves into higher intensity phases with some element of preparation and performance phases. The final section are more experienced swimmers who are more focused when it comes to selecting a distance band preference.

We use several pools around the city and outlying villages: Archbishop Holgate's School pool, Queen Margaret's School pool, Yearsley Swimming Baths, The Mount School pool, Energise Leisure Centre and Stamford Bridge Community Pool.

Gym and land based athletic strength training

A key part of becoming a great swimmer is becoming a great athlete first. This means developing all round strength, flexibility, joint control and mobility. The quickest way to do this is on land. Team Jorvik has dedicated strength and conditioning sessions in addition to pool time.

Sessions are busy and girls and boys attend equally. We work on joint mobility and control, explosiveness and body control, whilst improving general strength and coordination. This always translates to the pool well for those that attend and improve.
