Our Jorvik Spring Festival Gala on 11 March 2018 saw the first full long course competition of the season for many of our swimmers and the first long course gala held at Leeds in almost a year!  A total of 36 of our swimmers competed in the gala and a small army of parents acted as helpers to make sure it all ran smoothly.

For some younger swimmers this was their first ever gala and they did us proud. Ben Blake, Jessica Grant, Lilly Hazzard, Madison Pears and Alexander Tew all made their swimming debut in style. Medals were won by Ben B (1st 100 breaststroke), Jessica (1st 100 backstroke, 5th 100 freestyle), Maddison (5th 100 freestyle) and Alex (5th 100 freestyle).

A total of 68 medals were won by our swimmers overall (25 1st, 16 2nd, 16 3rd, 4 4th, 7 5th). Speeding tickets were achieved by Aidan F (100 breaststroke) and Meredith (100 butterfly).

Many of our swimmers achieved personal bests with Ben G and Robbie both scoring a full set. Ben G pb'd in each of his four events and Robbie pb'd in all three of his events.

New times were achieved by Libby, Emma B and Freddie as they took on the 200 freestyle for the first time. Maya, Robyn and Lento conquered the 200 IM. Emma B and Robyn achieved new times on the 100 backstroke, as did Freddie and Lento on the 100 breaststroke, while Robyn made it a hat-trick with a new time for the 100 freestyle as well.

Each and every one of our swimmers is to be commended for their hard work and good behaviour during the competition as we showcased our club at our gala. Their respect for officials and other swimmers as well as their genuine, enthusiastic support for their fellow Jorvik swimmers really does put the "team" in Team Jorvik.

We would like to thank all the parents who helped on the day and all those who helped to prepare for the gala and everyone who donated raffle prizes. With your help we were able to run a successful gala, not just for our swimmers but for all the other clubs who attended. Thank you.
