A team of 14 Team Jorvik swimmers all put in excellent performances this weekend at the Rotherham Metro A/B Grade Short Course Meet. In the first gala of the season and under the watchful eye of new head coach David Maxwell, they competed in 62 events, set 45 personal bests and brought home 27 medals – 12 ‘A’ Grade and 15 ‘B’ Grade. The girls were well represented with Rhiannon, Maya, Amy C, Jess, Emily, Laura, Amy B, Fay, Imogen, Charlotte and Eve all putting in strong swims; between them scooping up 16 medals – 4 gold, 4 silver and 8 bronze. Many achieved significant personal bests but the biggest gains were for Laura and Amy Bettles; Laura knocking 15 seconds and Amy a massive 20 seconds off their 200 and 100 Freestyle PBs respectively; and Charlotte also swimming a very impressive 13 second PB in the 100m Fly. The boys, whilst a much smaller contingent, definitely held their own; with Callum, Joe and Maximus swimming some huge PBs and bringing home 2 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals, plus five NER qualifying times between them (Callum 3, Joe 2). Well done to everyone!
