Yorkshire Championships Spring 2017

posted 9 Mar 2017, 13:49 by Team Jorvik
Most weekends in February were spent at either John Charles Aquatics Centre (Leeds) or Ponds Forge (Sheffield) for the Spring Yorkshire Long Course Swimming Championships.  A record 17 swimmers from Team Jorvik achieved qualifying times, that's a third of all our members!
The first weekend got off to a good start with 4 finals swims: Aidan winning a bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke and 4th place in 200m Breaststroke, Joe C 7th in 200m Fly with a 10 second PB, and Callum 6th place in 200m Backstroke. Another two awesome PB swims from Joe C in 200m and 400m Free.
The second weekend saw the 50m Sprints in Sheffield, with some great swimming from the whole squad. Our top swimmer accolade for the morning session went to James for 2 cracking PBs in Breaststroke and Free, and in the afternoon to Libby for a 3 second PB in Backstroke. Other good PB swims were posted by Heidi, Charlotte, Fay, Imogen, Laura, Aidan, Joe C, Callum, Joe S and Tom. Joe C was unlucky to finish in 11th place in both Fly and Free, but we had 2 finalists: well done to Callum for 8th place in the final of the Backstroke and to Aidan for becoming Yorkshire Champion in the U13 Boys 50m Breaststroke!
The final weekend saw more great swimming by Joe C to reach the final of the 100m Fly and an awesome 22 second PB in 400m IM on the Saturday.  On Sunday, more fantastic swimming from Callum to finish 4th in the final of the U14 100m Backstroke with a 2 second PB over his heat swim, while Tom grabbed 9th place in the final of the 16 & over 100m Backstroke.
Our Yorkshires 2017 qualifiers were: Libby Anderson, Heidi Fothergill, Charlotte Bell, Cormac Reilly, Maximus Mawle, Aidan Fothergill, Joe Callin, Fay Clark, Laura Bettles, Callum Tonkins, Imogen Wood, Emily Hill, James Ruxton, Joe Senior, Zak Moorcroft, Tom Watkins-Hargan, Rhiannon Wood.
