After much confusion and reorganisation, the "Sprints day" of the Yorkshire Championships ended up being spread over 2 days, with the youngest swimmers (14 and under) competing on the Saturday and the older swimmers on Sunday. Our younger squad - Joe Callin, Aidan Fothergill, Maximus Mawle, Emily Hill, Heidi Fothergill and Florence Spenceley - put in a magnificent effort on the first day, achieving almost a complete set of PB swims. Most noteable performances were in the Boys' 50m Fly where all three knocked off 3-4 seconds from their previous best times (Maximus 41.47, Joe 36.71, Aidan 35.98), with Joe achieving a similarly impressive improvement in the 50m Backstroke (38.22). Aidan's swim the in 50m Breaststroke was enough to earn him a place in the final, where he finished 3rd in 40.42 - becoming the 3rd Team Jorvik swimmer to ever win a Yorkshire medal. On the Sunday, our more experienced squad of Zak Moorcroft, Joe Senior, Tom Watkins-Hargan, Rhiannon Wood, Joan Clayton and Maya Appleyard, all swam well, with Rhiannon's 50m Free PB of 29.38 being the swim of the day. |
