Yorkshire Winter Competition: 13+ year olds

posted 23 Oct 2017, 14:59 by Team Jorvik
We had 13 swimmers in action for the second weekend of this competition: Rhiannon Wood, Zak Moorcroft, Joe Senior, James Ruxton, Elizabeth Blake, Emily Hill, Jake Rodway, Callum Tonkins, Aidan Reilly, Laura Bettles, Fay Clark, Meredith Harness and Aidan Fothergill (Joan Clayton, Tom Watkins-Hargan and Joe Callin also achieved qualifying times but chose not to compete).  It was a very successful weekend all round, with many excellent PB swims, 4 medals won and another 5 Top 10 finishes.

Callum won our first medal - clinching Silver in 50m Backstroke by swimming 1 second quicker than his previous best time.  He also came 6th in 100m Backstroke and swam 7 very impressive PBs over the weekend.

Meredith put in some fantastic performances, despite suffering with a shoulder injury, and achieved 5 Top 10 places out of the 6 events she chose to swim, including a brilliant Silver medal in 50m Fly.

Aidan F produced some amazing PBs in his 6 swims, winning Gold medals in both the 50m and 100m Breaststroke - incredibly in the 50m event he was 2.5 seconds ahead of his nearest rival!

Jake, swimming in his first Yorkshires, swam some great PBs in his 6 events, culminating in a 4 second improvement in 100m Backstroke. James also produced fine swims in all 6 of his events, knocking off nearly 2 seconds in his 50m Backstroke. Joe S put in solid performances in all of his 9 events, the highlight being a 1 second PB in 50m Breaststroke.  Aidan R and Elizabeth both swam nice PBs in their Breaststroke events, and Fay made a good improvement in her 50m Backstroke.

It is great for everyone to see the rewards from all the hard work the kids are putting in in training.
